Game by Game Previews for NFL Picks Week 7
Chicago at Green Bay
It might only be one loss to one of the best teams in the NFC, but the Green Bay Packers' performance in their loss against the Dallas Cowboys continued to amplify the questions surrounding the shortcomings of
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense. Even with the myriad of injuries they have at the running back position, they need a “get well” week against their arch rivals.
Pick: Green Bay.
NY Giants at Los Angeles
Odell Beckham Jr's 66 yard touchdown catch and run, late in the fourth quarter of the Giants victory over Baltimore on Sunday, may have changed the narrative of the whole season. Losing four straight games would have made life very uncomfortable for the “G-Men.” They'll now face a Rams team that's lost two straight games after starting the season 3-1.
Pick: New York.
Washington at Detroit
The Lions might be the favorites in this game, but the match-ups don't appear to be in their favor. Detroit has allowed the most passing touchdowns of any defense in the NFL (17) and currently ranks #23 in passing yards allowed per game. The Redskins might have won four straight games behind an improving rushing attack, but they love to throw the ball with
Kirk Cousins.
Pick: Washington
Minnesota at Philadelphia
This game could be referred to as “the Sam Bradford bowl.” Little did we realize that the trade of Bradford would propel these two teams in their given directions at such an interesting rate. Minnesota remains undefeated with Bradford at the helm. Carson Wentz and the Eagles have lost two straight games after starting 3-0, but the rookie quarterback looks every bit the part of a franchise quarterback.
Pick: Minnesota.
New Orleans at Kansas City
After going to Oakland and beating the Raiders by more than two touchdowns, the Chiefs rebounded nicely from their shellacking by the Steelers just seven days prior, and served notice to the rest of the AFC that they're still a contender to be reckoned with. Going on the road, New Orleans likely won't be able to put up the 41 points on the Chiefs that they did in their win over the Carolina Panthers.
Pick: Kansas City
Cleveland at Cincinnati
This game couldn't have come at a better time for the Cincinnati Bengals. The team that many had predicted would win the AFC North has had a miserable time with their positively brutal early schedule. Their four losses this season are by an average of 13 points, and they've dropped three of their last four games. They absolutely must get right against the winless Cleveland Browns.
Pick: Cincinnati
Buffalo at Miami
Don't look now, but the Buffalo Bills continue to be one of the hottest teams in the AFC. For the fourth straight week, they've beat their opponent by double-digit points, and ripped off more than 30 points in three of their last four games (highlighted by the 45 points they put up last week in their drubbing of San Francisco). The 1-2 punch of quarterback
Tyrod Taylor and running back LeSean McCoy have run it down the collective throats of opposing defenses for the past month.
Pick: Buffalo
Indianapolis at Tennessee
Not many people realize that the Titans are only one game out from the division lead in the AFC South. They did lose to division-leading Houston earlier this year, but with divisional games against Indianapolis and Jacksonville in back-to-back weeks, they can really boost their divisional record and make the AFC South race very interesting as the season progresses. But first, they have to beat the maddeningly inconsistent Colts.
Pick: Indianapolis.
Oakland at Jacksonville
Strangely, the 2-3 Jaguars are favored over the 4-2 Oakland Raiders in this game. It's true that the Jaguars have won two straight after starting the season 0-3, but let's not get carried away. Since the start of 2015, the Jaguars are 3-6 in games played at EverBank Field. Meanwhile, Oakland has to be smarting after the ugly loss they were handed by Kansas City last week.
Pick: Oakland.
Baltimore at NY Jets
The situation is pretty ugly for both of these teams. Things started off promising for the Baltimore Ravens, but losing two straight games after starting 3-0 has cast a big blemish on their hot start to the season. Meanwhile, the 1-5 Jets have been on the wrong end of four straight miserable losses. New York head coach
Todd Bowles insists he's sticking with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, but let's see how long that lasts.
Pick: NY Jets.
San Diego at Atlanta
Even with their loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week, the Atlanta Falcons served notice last week that they are a team to be reckoned with in the NFC playoff race.
Who knows how different things might have been if the referees did call pass interference on Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who blatantly interfered with wide receiver Julio Jones of Atlanta during the Falcons comeback attempt.
But even with that, to go into Seattle and give the Seahawks a hell of game is a remarkable feat in and of itself.
Pick: Atlanta.
Tampa Bay at San Francisco
This is the perfect opportunity for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to crawl back to the .500 mark, after starting the season a dreadful 1-3. They can build on their win over Carolina last Sunday by beating the San Francisco 49ers, who continue to look like the worst team in the NFL.
In his last 25 games in the NFL, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly is 8-17, giving him a winning percentage of .325.
That likely wasn't what the 49ers had in mind when they hired the so called “genius” Kelly.
Pick: Tampa Bay
New England at Pittsburgh
The entire complexion of this game changed with word that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is sideline for the foreseeable future with an injury to his knee. With “Big Ben” going up against Tom Brady, this looked like a potential early preview of the AFC Championship game.
Instead, expect most of the focus to be on Brady, specifically in terms of how he builds on the 782 yards and six touchdowns (and zero interceptions) he's thrown in his first two games back from suspension this year.
Pick: New England.
Seattle at Arizona
This is a major “flag in the sand” game for the Seattle Seahawks, if they want to retake their throne as the kings of the NFC West. They're 4-1 right now and riding a three-game winning streak, but the only divisional game they played this season resulted in a loss.
Beating the defending champion Cardinals in Arizona would be a major boost for them, because it'd force Arizona to come to Seattle to avenge such a loss.
Pick: Seattle.
Houston at Denver
It's entirely possible that Houston Texans running back Lamar Miller ends up winning the team's MVP award at the end of the year, especially with J.J. Watt out for the season. Miller's 178 yards and two touchdowns combined (rushing and receiving) may have saved the Texans season.
A divisional loss last week, at home, to the Indianapolis Colts would have severely damaged their hopes of winning the AFC South. Instead, they still have a 4-2 record and the lead in the division.
Pick: Houston
