NFL Week 13 Recap: Saints First to Clinch, Patriots Face Bleak Future

On Thanksgiving, New Orleans became the first team to clinch their division. The Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons 26-18 to secure the NFC South.

This New Orleans’ squad hasn’t resembled past teams. The Drew Brees led offense ranks 9th in passing yards per at 254.1. The offense only averages 24.8 points per game.

8 teams score more each week than the New Orleans Saints.

But while the Saints won’t score a ton of points, they do play ferocious defense. Dennis Allen’s unit allows 20.7 points per game. Like former NFL championship defenses, Allen’s fellas shut down the run first.

Opponents average 88.3 yards on the ground. At 34.39%, the Saints rank 6th in third down conversion percentage.

This Sunday, the Saints battle the 49ers for what should be home field supremacy. If the Saints win, they control their playoff destiny. New Orleans beat Seattle earlier this season.

If you like N’awlins to win the Super Bowl, jump on them this week. They’re at +600 on MyBookie. Beating the Niners plummets the odds.

Over in the AFC, the odds on the Ravens have fallen to +240 after they beat San Francisco. The odds on the Patriots rose to +400.

New England’s odds should only rise further. So, hold off if you like Brady and Belichick to make it back-to-back Vince Lombardi Trophies.

New England’s future dimmed after the Texans loss. Tom Brady failed to provide any Brady-esque moments. He’s not the athlete Drew Brees is. That’s the only reason to explain why Brees continues to excel in the Big Easy and Brady’s form has fallen.

Terrific Tom’s got an 88.2 QB rating this season. Brees’ QB rating is 101.4. The death knell could be upon the Patriots. We’ll see how the offense keeps up against the KC Chiefs in Week 14.

The guess here? Patrick Mahomes exposes the defense the way both Deshaun and Lamar did while Tom’s lost the invincible armor.

On to NFL Week 14 Picks 2019

NFL Week 14 Predictions

Thursday, Dec. 5

Dallas Cowboys (-3) vs Chicago Bears

The Dallas Cowboys lead the NFC East because it’s a bad division. At 6-6, nobody believes the Boys have what it takes to win the Super Bowl. Heck, they might not make the playoffs. Believers remain, which is why they’re favored over the Bears. Take the points on the home team.

NFL Prediction: Chicago Bears

Sunday, Dec. 8

Baltimore Ravens -6 vs Buffalo Bills

Ravens face a trap game on Sunday. Buffalo plays at a high-level on both sides of the ball. If the Ravens can’t stop Buffalo’s rushing attack, the Bills will make this close. Back the home team to eat clock and cover.

NFL Prediction: Buffalo Bills

Washington Redskins vs Green Bay Packers (-13)

Washington upset the Carolina Panthers as a +10 dog. That means nothing. The Panthers lost that game more than Washington won it. The line hasn’t moved, which means handicappers agree with us. Packers cover.

NFL Prediction: Green Bay Packers

Denver Broncos vs Houston Texans (-9 ½)

Denver plays great defense. Houston won’t produce the same fire on Sunday against the Broncos that they did facing the Patriots. The Texans should take a backward step here. Take the points on the Broncos.

NFL Prediction: Houston Texans

San Francisco 49ers vs New Orleans Saints (-2 ½)

Baltimore showed the best way to beat San Francisco. Play great defense. Don’t get too fancy on offense. Sean Payton should come up with a game plan that slows down the Niners’ top defensive line. It won’t be easy but New Orleans covers.

NFL Prediction: New Orleans

Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns (-9)

Don’t discount the Bengals in this rivalry game versus Cleveland. Andy Dalton punished the Jets in a surprising 22-6 win. In Week 13, the Browns’ defense failed to stop third-string Steelers’ quarterback Devlin Hodges. Why would they stop Dalton?.

NFL Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals

Carolina Panthers vs Atlanta Falcons (-2 ½)

Carolina is a mess. But, the coaching staff plays for their jobs this Sunday. If they hand the ball to McCaffrey on every play, they keep their jobs. That’s the blueprint to beat the Falcons.

NFL Prediction: Carolina Panthers moneyline

Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets (-5 ½)

Miami beat the Jets 26-18 in the first matchup. Yes, the Jets’ offense looked great before running into the Bengals in Week 13. Let’s get serious. The Bengals? That’s who shut down the Jets? Take the points.

NFL Prediction: Miami Dolphins

Indianapolis Colts vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)

Jameis Winston didn’t throw an interception in Week 13. He definitely throws 1. He might throw 2. The smart money is on Jameis throwing 3. Colts rock.

NFL Prediction: Indianapolis Colts moneyline

L.A. Chargers (-3) vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Something as simple as going with the hot quarterback can make a big difference. Gardner Minshew keeps the Jags in this. Back Jacksonville.

NFL Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars

Kansas City Chiefs vs New England Patriots (-3)

Read our Week 13 recap to know why we like the Chiefs on the moneyline. Tom Brady threw duck after duck against the Texans. The Patriots’ defense couldn’t stop a mobile quarterback. Patrick Mahomes can be as mobile as Deshaun Watson. KC takes this.

NFL Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs

Pittsburgh Steelers (-2 ½) vs Arizona Cardinals

Pittsburgh’s defense won’t allow Kyler Murray to get comfortable. Almost as important? Devlin Hodges plays within himself. Pittsburgh will have the perfect strategy on offense to run clock and win by 7 to 10 points.

NFL Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers

Tennessee Titans (-3) vs Oakland Raiders

In the last 2 weeks, the Raiders have scored a combined 12 points. The Titans have scored a combined 73 points. This will get ugly.

NFL Prediction: Tennessee Titans

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings (-13 ½)

The Lions are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games. Detroit’s defense ranks 30th against the pass and 29th overall. After a tough loss in Seattle, Minnesota bounces back by blowing out the Lions.

NFL Prediction: Minnesota Vikings

Seattle Seahawks (-1) vs L.A. Rams

Seattle beat LAR 30-29 in the first matchup. They won’t repeat that win on Sunday. The Seahawks play at a high-level, but the Rams’ defense has gelled. Russell must beat Jalen Ramsey while holding off Aaron Donald. Rams win.

NFL Prediction: L.A. Rams moneyline

Monday, Dec. 9

New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles (-9)

Philadelphia’s offense should get well against the Giants. What’s up with the defense, though? This either is a low scoring snore fest where the Giants cover. Or, it’s a high-scoring game where the Giants cover. We can’t lay the 9 on a Philly squad that has lost 3 in a row SU.

NFL Prediction: New York Giants
