- BetOnline is strongly favoring George Edwards to be the next head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- As the Minnesota Vikings' defensive coordinator, Edwards was in charge of the NFL's No. 4 defense
- The Buccaneers are also interviewing Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy
Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers about to let George do it – as in George Edwards?
BetOnline certainly is of that opinion. The sportsbook is offering odds on who will be the next head coach of the Buccaneers, and have established Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Edwards as the chalk.

The Bucs Start Here (Again)
Whoever gets the nod will be the Buccaneers' fifth head coach since 2009.
They've posted two winning seasons in that span, but this season marked the fifth time since 2009 that Tampa Bay has lost at least 10 games in one season.

The Buccaneers own a lifetime .385 winning percentage (260-415-1), yet have managed to go under that bar in five of the past six seasons.
Does It Rest On the Defense?
Offense wasn't an issue in Tampa Bay this season.
The Bucs were third in the NFL, averaging 415.5 yards per game. The two teams ahead of them, the Chiefs and Rams, combined to go 25-7.
The Bucs were the NFL's No. 1 passing attack, averaging 320.3 yards per game.
On the other side of the ball, Tampa Bay was atrocious.
No team surrendered more points per game than the Bucs (29.0). They were 27th in overall defense (383.4 YPG), and managed to be equally inept at stopping the run (123.9, 24th) as they were at preventing the pass (259.4, 26th).

No wonder they are keen on defensive coordinators, talking to both Edwards and Brian Flores of the New England Patriots.
Indications are that Edwards, whose defense was No. 1 in the NFL in 2017, interviewed impressively last year for the Chicago Bears' head-coaching position.
Based on how dreadful Matt Patricia, the predecessor to Flores in New England, performed in charge of the 6-10 Detroit Lions, not to mention the Pats' defense ranking 21st this season, you'd have to think the edge goes to Edwards.
