NFL Week 9 Review

Neither chalk players, nor underdog odds bettors had the upper hand in Week 9. The favorites scored with 7 victories. The dogs scored with 7 wins. The biggest favorite win might have been the L.A. Chargers 26-11 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

Heading into the matchup, the Packers were a solid -4 road chalk. They not only didn’t cover. They lost straight up. The most disappointing thing? Green Bay accounted for only 45 net rushing yards and 145 net passing yards. The offense stunk it up last Sunday.

The Baltimore Ravens provided the biggest dog win of the week. The Ravens hosted the Patriots a +3 home underdog. Baltimore dominated the Patriots. They rushed for 210 yards versus the leagues best defense on their way to a 37-20 victory. Baltimore signaled they’re a legit Super Bowl squad.

Two preseason Super Bowl faves that got the proverbial fork in Week 9 are the Chicago Bears and the Cleveland Browns. The best sportsbook on the planet had Da Bears at +1400 or so to win the Super Bowl. The Browns were an illogical +1400 as well. At one point, Cleveland’s odds dropped to +1200.

Chicago is 3-5 after the Eagles drubbed them. Cleveland is 2-6 after losing to the previously 1-win Denver Broncos. What’s the cliché? You never know until they play the games? We know now!
Onto Week 10 NFL football picks where spreads point to more than a few underdogs grabbing ATS victories.

NFL Week 10 Picks

Thursday, Nov. 7

Los Angeles Chargers -1 vs Oakland Raiders

The Chargers looked great when beating the Green Bay Packers 26-11 in Week 9. There’s no guarantee they carry over that great play against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games. That trend says it all.

NFL Prediction: Oakland Raiders

Sunday, Nov. 10

Buffalo Bills vs Cleveland Browns -2 ½

Cleveland is an absolute mess. Although there’s no hope for the Browns, this could be a trap game for the Bills. Buffalo allowed the Eagles to rush for 218 yards. They allowed the Redskins to rush for 127. Browns cover.

NFL Prediction: Cleveland Browns

New York Giants -2 ½ vs New York Jets

The Giants have lost 5 in a row. The Jets have lost 4-of-5. There’s no reason to believe the Giants are that much better than the Jets. One trend does point to a Giants win and cover: NYG is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.

NFL Prediction: New York Giants

Kansas City Chiefs -4 vs Tennessee Titans

The odds don’t necessarily imply Patrick Mahomes plays this week. Kansas City is a better team than Tennessee even without Patrick Mahomes. Titans are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 at home while the road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.

NFL Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs

Arizona Cardinals vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers -4 ½

Both offenses are decent. Tampa’s got a serious flaw in their defensive strategy, though. The Bucs rank 1st in rushing yards allowed. They rank 30th in passing yards allowed. Arizona will exploit that with top pass-catching running back Kenyan Drake.

NFL Prediction: Arizona Cardinals

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints -13

Both teams head into this rivalry matchup after a bye. This is one of the higher betting lines in Week 10. But, Atlanta is 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings in New Orleans. They’re 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings overall.

NFL Prediction: New Orleans Saints

Baltimore Ravens -10 vs Cincinnati Bengals

The trends point to a Bengals cover. Stats trump trends, though. Stats trump trends when the best rushing team in the NFL faces the worst rushing defense in the league.

NFL Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals

Carolina Panthers vs Green Bay Packers -4 ½

The odds in this game imply the Packers bounce back from a horrible Week 9 performance. Green Bay’s defense gave up 159 rushing yards to the L.A. Chargers last Sunday. Now, they face the top running back in the NFL in Christian McCaffrey. Go Panthers’ moneyline.

NFL Prediction: Carolina Panthers moneyline

Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears -2 ½

Both teams are in disarray. Detroit has a much better quarterback in the matchup. Go with the team led by Matthew Stafford over the one led by Mitch Trubisky.

NFL Prediction: Detroit Lions

Miami Dolphins vs Indianapolis Colts -10 ½

Miami won its first game of the season. On Sunday, they head to Indianapolis to face a Colts team that might have to start Brian Hoyer. Either way, Indianapolis should dominate.

NFL Prediction: Indianapolis Colts

Los Angeles Rams -3 ½ vs Pittsburgh Steelers

The trends point to this one being much closer than most sports gambling bettors believe. The Rams are on a 2-game winning streak. The Steelers are on a 3-game winning streak and are tough at home. Take the points.

NFL Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers

Minnesota Vikings vs Dallas Cowboys -2 ½

It’s tough to imagine the Vikings losing 2 straight. They should control this one with the rushing attack. Vikings on the moneyline.

NFL Prediction: Minnesota Vikings moneyline

Monday, Nov. 11

Seattle Seahawks / San Francisco 49ers -6

Expect massive promotions for the top matchup of Week 10. Not only is it the top matchup in Week 10, it’s also the Monday night game.

Seattle desperately wants to close the gap on the last undefeated team in the NFL. San Francisco wants to maintain their 2-game lead in the NFC West.

Which team wins out? The Seahawks will play Josh Gordon. That gives the favorite to win the NFL MVP, Russell Wilson, another target. Seahawks pull off the moneyline upset victory.

NFL Prediction: Seattle Seahawks moneyline
