The Philadelphia Eagles avoided a disappointing elimination by making it to the playoffs, but the prize they get for sneaking into postseason play is a matchup with the Chicago Bears, who are among the biggest stories of football this season. Will the Eagles upset Chicago and continue their defense of the title they won in 2018? Or will the Bears move on to the next round? Going into the game the sportsbook favors the Bears by a field goal.

Betting Preview for the Philadelphia Eagles vs Chicago Bears NFL Wild Card Round Game on January 6 2019

Where: Soldier Field, Chicago

When: Sunday, January 6, 2018, 8:15 PM ET

Line: Philadelphia Eagles (+3) vs Chicago Bears (-3) – view all 2018 NFL lines

TV Broadcast: NBC

Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (9-7)

The defending Super Bowl champions are still in it to win it again. That’s after the Eagles took care of their own business in Week 17 by beating the Washington Redskins on the road, 24-0. However, the Eagles saw Super Bowl hero Nick Foles suffer an injury in that game, as the quarterback left the contest and it didn’t return due to a chest injury. Early reports say that it’s not anything serious, but it’s still worth monitoring, considering the gravity of Philly’s upcoming game. If Foles can’t go, the Eagles’ passing attack will fall on the shoulders of Nate Sudfield, who has shown flashes of brilliance in limited appearances, but does not inspire any confidence in Philadelphia. That means a Foles absence will be a bigger workload for the Eagles’ backfield duo of Josh Adams and Wendell Smallwood, who combined for 103 rushing yards in the Redskins game. The Eagles finished the regular season 18th in scoring with 22.9 points per game and 12th in defense with 21.8 points surrendered per contest.

The Eagles are 3-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games away from Lincoln Financial Field.

Betting on the Chicago Bears (12-4)

The Bears didn’t need a win last Sunday, but they went ahead and beat the Minnesota Vikings on the road anyway to the tune of a 24-10 score. One of the best takeaway for the Bears from that game was the performance of running back Jordan Howard, who sliced his way through Minnesota’s defense for 109 rushing yards and two touchdowns. It’s not always anymore that Howard churns out that kind of digits, but if it’s a sign of things to come from him, Philadelphia is going to have a tougher time stopping Chicago’s offense that’s already  top 10- in the league with an average of 26.3 points per game. Of course, it’s Chicago’s defense that’ll carry the team. Chicago’s defensive line consisting of the likes of Khalil Mack and Akiem Nicks has been central to the team’s stop unit that’s tops in the league with only 17.7 points surrendered per contest.

Chicago is 4-0 ATS in its last four games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Philadelphia stuns the Bears, 23-20.
