On defense, Chris Jones and Frank Clark bring power, boosting their chance of capturing the Super Bowl. Emerging talents like Mecole Hardman add depth and flexibility, offering additional options in crucial moments.

Kansas City also played against the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl 1 on January 15th, 1967, losing 35-10. The Chiefs and New York Jets are the only teams to play for the Super Bowl as AFL franchises but never as NFL franchises.

Historical Performance of AFC Teams

Over the last ten years, AFC teams have had a strong Super Bowl presence. The Patriots, with Tom Brady, appeared in five, winning three. The Steelers, another top team, consistently reached playoffs, creating fierce competition for contenders like the Chiefs.

There's a Lot to Like

Pegging the Chiefs as the Super Bowl 54 chalk makes sense, no matter what happens in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

If the Patriots do knock off Kansas City, it can be viewed as the final hurrah for New England QB Tom Brady, 41, and the ultimate learning experience for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, just 23 and playing in the second game of his NFL postseason career.

On the other hand, should the Chiefs win, it works the narrative even more succinctly that Mahomes, the second QB in NFL history to pass for 5,000 yards and 50 TDs in the same season, is about to inherit Brady's throne.

It also would help to cement the notion that the Chiefs are about to ascend to the top of both the AFC and NFL hierarchy.

Andy Reid's coaching has been eye-opening. He emphasizes offense, which suits Mahomes' skills, while his decision-making drives the team forward.

Reid’s experience and tactical planning keep the Chiefs competitive at the highest level.

Don't Rule Out . . .

Let's not forget that the Los Angeles Rams suit up the NFC's most productive offense and in defensive tackle Aaron Donald, may also have the NFL's best defensive player situated on their roster.

They are still young – none of Donald, running back Todd Gurley or QB Jared Goff can yet be classified as anywhere near past their primes.

It took Peyton Manning and Drew Brees a long time to finally get their Super Bowl moment, and maybe that's going to be the case for Philip Rivers as well.

While we're on the subject of Los Angeles, there's also the Chargers. It took Peyton Manning and Saints QB Drew Brees a long time to finally get their Super Bowl moment, and maybe that's going to be the case for Chargers QB Philip Rivers as well.

He's surrounded by talent on both sides of the ball – RB Melvin Gordon, WR Keenan Allen, and DEs Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. The Chargers have taken big steps forward in each of the past two seasons.

Recent drafts have shaped teams like the Chiefs and Chargers. Mahomes, a first-round pick, transformed Kansas City’s offense. Similarly, Joey Bosa boosted the Chargers’ defense.

Young players are redefining strategies and bolstering team strengths.

On the flip side, you have to doubt that Brady and Brees, both past 40, have many play/action fakes left. It's also hard to like the Bears until Mitchell Trubisky shows more consistency.

Comparison with Recent Super Bowl Winners

The Chiefs resemble the recent Eagles and Patriots Super Bowl winners. These teams relied on potent offenses and strategic coaching. The Chiefs, with their high-scoring games and Reid’s leadership, mirror these traits, building confidence in their potential success.

Defensive adjustments mid-game have also become a strength, reminiscent of Philadelphia’s 2018 victory, further aligning with recent champions' approaches.

Super (Bowl 54 ) Luck Ability

In Pokemon, Super Luck Ability enables you to increase your critical hit ratio. In Indianapolis, Luck lets you dream of the Super Bowl.

If Andrew Luck isn't the NFL's comeback player of the year, it will be a tremendous upset. After missing all of last season following shoulder surgery, the Indianapolis Colts QB threw for 39 TDs, second in the NFL to Mahomes.

After a 1-5 start, the Colts went 9-2. Frank Reich was in his first year as head coach. Guard Quenton Nelson got some NFL OROY love and rookie LB Darius Leonard led the NFL with 167 tackles. Loaded with draft picks and cap space, the Colts play in the wide-open AFC South.
