- Todd Gurley and Sony Michel both played their college football at Georgia
- Michel made his Bulldogs debut in Gurley's final season in Athens in 2014
- Suspensions and injuries limited the star rushers to just four appearances together in college
The University of Georgia will be well represented when the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots hit the field for Super Bowl LIII.
No fewer than four Georgia alumni are expected to compete in this year’s big game, including Todd Gurley and Sony Michel, who both suited up for the Bulldogs during the 2014 season.

While next weekend’s Patriots/Rams clash at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium marks something of a homecoming for the two star rushers, the odds of their relationship as former Georgia teammates being mentioned during this year’s Super Bowl broadcast lag at a lengthy +140 on the “NFL Fun Props” at online sportsbook Bookmaker.

Gurley Enjoyed Historic Debut with Bulldogs in 2012
Gurley stormed onto the college football scene in 2012, rushing for over 100 yards on nine occasions and 1,385 yards on the year, following in the footsteps of Herschel Walker as just the second Bulldogs freshman to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.

The Baltimore native topped 900 yards in his next two (injury-plagued) campaigns before declaring for the 2015 NFL Draft, where he was selected 10th overall by the Rams.
Gurley’s final season at Georgia was marred by controversy in addition to injury. The two-time All-SEC running back was pegged as an early candidate to claim Heisman Trophy honors, but missed four games while under suspension for a violation of NCAA rules, stemming from allegations that he accepted cash payment for signing autographs.
All-American Michel Arrived in Georgia in 2014
Gurley’s absence from the Bulldogs should have provided a golden opportunity for Michel to show off his skills during his freshman season at Georgia. A member of USA Today’s All-American High School Team, Michel enjoyed some early success in his Bulldogs debut, highlighted by a 155-yard, three-touchdown performance in a 66-0 rout of the Troy Trojans.

Star Rushers Limited to Four Common Appearances in Lone Season as Bulldogs Teammates
However, after suffering a serious shoulder injury, the Patriots’ first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft saw action in just seven total appearances in his freshman year, and just four appearances in contests with Gurley in the lineup.
With limited Georgia storylines featuring both Gurley and Michel, the odds of the past relationship between the former Bulldog teammates being discussed during next Sunday’s broadcast are pegged at a short -175.
