Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (7-2)
Where would the Seahawks be without Russell Wilson? The Seahawks got away with a win last week, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home in overtime, 40-34. As usual, Wilson carried most of the load, passing for 378 yards and five touchdowns without an interception on 29-of-43 completions. Wilson had a field day torching Tampa Bay’s punching bag pass defense. He’s not going to be afforded with bigger windows to throw through and spaces to run by San Francisco’s black hole defense, but Wilson is an MVP candidate for a reason. He can find ways to make plays and extend broken ones. He’ll get help from running back Chris Carson, who rushed for 105 yards on 16 carries against the Bucs’ No. 1 run defense. Also, Wilson is about to test his shiny new weapon in the talented Josh Gordon, who was recently acquired by Seattle to provide added boost to the team’s passing attack that is ninth in the league with 263.3 passing yards per game.
The Seahawks are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five road games.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (8-0)
Don’t wait for Richard Sherman to come knocking down your door to remind you to take the 49ers seriously. San Francisco kept its record unblemished with a 28-25 escape win over the Arizona Cardinals on the road in Week 9’s Thursday Night Football. Although the Niners weren’t able to dominate the lowly Cardinals the way many expected, they can be given a pass, considering they played away from home on a short week. A long rest after that should have their bodies fresh ahead of the showdown with Seattle at home. As mentioned earlier, San Francisco’s defense has been dependable, allowing just 12.8 points and 241.0 total yards per game — second and first overall in the NFL. The 49ers have 30 sacks on the season, and that ability to get to the quarterback is a main reason why opposing offenses have been often left crippled and helpless. Nick Bosa leads the team with seven sacks while Arik Armstead has 5.5. The two can wreak havoc against Seattle’s offensive line that has allowed 22 sacks on the season.
The 49ers are 2-1 ATS in their last three home games against the Seahawks.
The Seahawks win, 27-24.
