Betting on the Detroit Lions (1-0-1)
The Lions could have started the season with a 2-0 SU record if only they only avoided a huge lead in Week 1’s tie with the Arizona Cardinals, but at least they found their way into the win column by defeating the Los Angeles Chargers at home last Sunday, 13-10. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford had two passing touchdowns and two interceptions and finished the game with 245 passing yards on 22 of 30 completions. Stafford will have to work on his accuracy, as Detroit’s offensive line seemed to have him well protected. The Lions are eight in the league with a 3.85 offensive quarterback sacked percentage. He was also unscathed in the pocket against the Chargers. The Lions’ defense, meanwhile, could get a bit of a break, with a number of key Eagles offensive weapons in danger of missing the game due to injuries.
The Lions are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four road games.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
The Eagles didn’t just pick up a loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. They also got hurt bodies. Dallas Goedert, DeSean Jackson, and Alshon Jeffery all left the Falcons game with injuries, and their conditions should be closely monitored by those looking to bet on this matchup. Those injuries opened the door for wide receiver Nelson Agholor to have a great statistical night, as he led the team with 107 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight catches and 11 targets. Tight end Zach Ertz, meanwhile, had 72 receiving yards and eight catches, while pacing the team with 16 looks from quarterback Carson Wentz, who went 25 for 43 for 231 passing yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. Wentz was also sacked three times for a loss of 18 yards. The Eagles are of course hoping they’ll have Goedert, Jackson, and Jeffery ready for Week 3 against the Lions’ leaky defense that is allowing over 400 total yards per game.
The over is 2-0 in the Eagles’ last two home games.
The Eagles win, 24-20.
