Betting on the Cleveland Browns (0-1)
All that preseason bombast and all that hype all turned into smoke right in the very first week of the season for the Cleveland Browns, who got drowned by the Tennessee Titans in a 43-13 home loss. Baker Mayfield didn’t help his dream of franchise quarterback validation with a messy performance, completing just 25 of 38 passes for a touchdown and three interceptions, including one that was returned for a TD. But if a wakeup call was ever going to be given to Cleveland, it couldn’t have happened at a better time, as that gives the Browns ample time to get it together. Mayfield should still have their confidence up going into the Jets match, knowing that they beat that team last year. Plus the Browns’ defense will have a lighter load with Sam Darnold out for this coming Monday’s meeting with Cleveland.
The Browns are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four road games.
Betting on the New York Jets (0-1)
The Jets didn’t have enough combustion in Week 1 to hold their lead and finish the game strong, as they lost to the Buffalo Bills at home, 17-6. Apart from starting the season on a sour note, the Jets will be challenged by the absence of quarterback Sam Darnold, who will need at least a few weeks out of action due to mono. That means a call-up to starter duty for backup Trevor Siemian. Last season, Siemian had 2,285 passing yards, 12 touchdowns against 14 interceptions for the Denver Broncos. Darnold’s absence leaves a heavier load for the Jets’ backfield, particularly on the shoulders of running back Le’Veon Bell. In Week 1, Bell rushed for 60 yards on 17 carries while adding 32 receiving yards on six receptions. The Jets’ offense will be capped by Siemian’s limited ability under center, so there’s pressure on New York’s stop unit to perform. One big key for the Jets’ defense is the availability of linebacker CJ Mosley, who left the Bills game with a groin injury, though, he has extra time to heal up with the next game not until Monday night.
The over is 2-1 in the Jets’ last three home games.
The Browns win, 28-19.
