- Marvin Lewis is favored to move on from the Bengals after this season
- Lewis will reportedly be the one who decides if he returns or not
- 2018 has been one Lewis' worst seasons in Cincinnati
Marvin Lewis should be on the hot seat.
He's clinched a third straight losing season, his defense is on pace to be the worst in franchise history, and he was just embarrassed by the Browns for the second time in less than a month.
For the first time since 2002, the Browns sweep the Bengals winning both games this season. Sorry to say it, but this is an all-time low for Cincinnati, the Bengals and Marvin Lewis. #Bengals

As Black Monday looms, you'd think Lewis' job would be in serious jeopardy, but the Bengals are reportedly allowing him to dictate whether or not he remains their Head Coach.
Over at Bovada, the odds are against Lewis returning to Cincy in 2019, but it's by no means a slam dunk.
Odds Marvin Lewis Remains Bengals Head Coach in 2019
Will Marvin Lewis be the Head Coach of the Bengals for Game 1 of the 2019 Regular Season | Odds at Bovada |

Yes | +125 |
No | -165 |
*Odds taken 12/28
Just three weeks ago, Lewis was actually favored to return as the Bengals Head Coach next season, but three losses in the last four weeks has shifted the odds in the opposite direction.
A season of new lows
The Bengals are guaranteed to finish last in the AFC North for the first time since 2010.
They rank last in total defense, last in scoring defense, and will need a miracle in Week 17 to avoid surrendering the most points in a season in franchise history.
They've lost eight of their last ten and are allowing opponents to convert a league high 50% of their third downs.
They fired their DC last month, but have shown little improvement since Lewis took over that role in addition to his head coaching duties.
An uninspiring resume
Lewis may be the NFL's second-longest tenured Head Coach, but quantity does not equal quality.
Every coach on this list has a Super Bowl win and at least 7 playoff wins..

Lewis is the only name on this prestigious list without a Super Bowl ring and at least seven playoff wins. But misery does love company, and owner Mike Brown's track record in Cincinnati is remarkably even worse.
Everyone focuses on the fact that Marvin Lewis hasn't won a playoff game in 16 seasons:
BUT Mike Brown, who has owned the team since 1991, has also NEVER had a team win a playoff game.
Only 7 winning seasons out of 28 (including this season).@CincyProblems— Joe Mayer (@sportsdude53) December 23, 2018
Maybe these two are destined to toil in mediocrity for the foreseeable future, but it's hard to imagine another organization allowing Lewis' lack of success to continue.
The verdict
As dire as this situation seems, I actually think there is some value in the “Yes”.
The Bengals have lost 15 players to IR this season, including Andy Dalton and AJ Green, and I'm sure Lewis can convince himself that it was injuries that derailed his 2018 campaign.

Ultimately, he's still under contract for one more year and appears to control his own destiny. Unless he drops a hint in the next few days about his future beyond 2018, expect him to be back on the Bengals sideline in 2019.
