Mitchell Trubisky has emerged as one of the most popular bets to win the 2019 NFL MVP Award.
The Chicago Bears quarterback, who is coming off a solid 24-touchdown season, opened on Bovada’s NFL MVP odds board as a top 10 favorite at +2000.
According to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, Trubisky has made up 17% of NFL MVP wagers and a total of 22% of money placed.

While Bovada predicts Trubisky will in fact be one of the favorites to win the coveted prize, other sportsbooks have the Bears pivot at +5000. MyBookie has even longer odds placed on Trubisky at +6000. On average, Trubisky’s odds to win the MVP are +4300.
With such a wide range or betting line futures attached to Trubisky, which ones are actually worth taking a chance on?

Trubisky on the Rise
Let’s break down Trubisky’s previous season and his growth as a quarterback entering his third year as the Bears’ starting QB.
After throwing just seven TD passes in his rookie campaign, Trubisky evolved into a legitimate starter in 2018, throwing for 24 touchdown passes with 12 interceptions. He improved his completion rate from 59.4% to 66.6% and went from 2,193 passing yards to 3,223.
As impressive as those stat lines are, they’re far from MVP-worthy. That’s not to suggest Trubisky can’t get even better, but if you’re considering taking a chance on Trubisky the longer odds — such as the one offered at MyBookie – are far more enticing. Especially considering Trubisky is a longshot for MVP honors, despite the recent betting fanfare.

Money on Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes is a far more intriguing wager option at +400 when it comes to NFL MVP betting lines. Bovada and other sportsbooks have the star QB as the odds-on front-runner to win the MVP award for a second straight year.
Mahomes edged out Drew Brees to win the 2018 honor and based on expectations surrounding the Chiefs heading into the upcoming season, he will be in MVP discussions once again.

What is working against Mahomes is the fact no player has won consecutive NFL MVP awards since 2008 and 2009 when Peyton Manning accomplished the feat.
No player has won consecutive NFL MVP awards since 2008 and 2009 when Peyton Manning accomplished the feat.
Another strong betting option is Baker Mayfield. The Cleveland Browns QB has a wide range of throwing options that includes Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Mayfield enters his sophomore season with high expectations after collecting 3,725 passing yards and 27 TDs in 2018.
Mayfield is listed at +1400 to win MVP honors next season, sitting behind Mahomes, Andrew Luck, Aaron Rodgers, and Brees.
