New York Giants Schedule Odds & Analysis
The fall from Super Bowl champion to cellar dweller in the NFL is one that can often come very quickly. It’s a drop that is difficult to stop and harder still to climb out of. For teams who experience this precipitous fall, it is very often finding a new franchise QB that get the forward momentum going. The New York Giants are currently trying to find their way back to glory days, and with QB Daniel Jones about to head into his second season, the Giants feel that they have that important piece in place. Still, it takes more than a reliable QB to win every week and make the playoffs in this league, so the Giants may not quite be there yet. We are going to look at their 2020 schedule to see just how close they might be to getting back into the playoff hunt and what are their NFL odds for this upcoming campaign.
New York Giants Schedule Analysis
Strength of Schedule
When you are a team trying to claw your way back to respectability, every game seems tough, regardless of who you are playing or where the games are being played. If there is a bit of a silver lining for what is a very young team, it is that the Giants have a pretty favorable schedule in 2020, but the toughest games all come at the start of the season, which we will talk about in a moment. Overall, though, the Giants will square off against teams who went a combined 123-132-1 last season. That has them with the 7th weakest schedule in the league, but that often means very little.
How Will Jones Handle the New Playbook?
It is going to be a very busy offseason for Daniel Jones and the rest of the offensive unit, as they will need to learn an entirely new playbook from the one they had last season. Pat Shurmur is out, and it will be former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett calling the shots as the offensive coordinator. For his part, Jones has already publicly stated that he will have no problem adapting, which is what you would expect from a player being touted as a franchise QB. Given the early schedule for the Giants, we will quickly find out what this offensive unit is made of.
Primetime and Featured Games
For a team that has struggled of late, it is perhaps a little surprising that the New York Giants are getting some love from the networks. They will be appearing in no less than 3 games in primetime, with each of those games coming against legitimately good football teams. The Giants will be thrown right into the fire in the opening week of the season, opening up on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers and their disruptive young defense. They will then have a big divisional battle against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night in Week 7, which will immediately be followed by a Week 8 Monday night game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The schedule maker was definitely not very kind to the New York Giants in the early part of the season, as their schedule through the first 5 weeks is brutal. They open up against the Steelers, and then face the Bears, 49ers, Rams, and Cowboys. If they can nab a couple of wins out of that, they might well be in good shape.
