The Dallas Cowboys are headed to the playoffs on the strength of their clinching of the NFC East title in Week 16. Will Dak Prescott and the company continue the good times rolling this weekend in East Rutherford against the New York Giants? The Giants have lost their last two games, so a win at home against the Cowboys will be a nice little present to their fans who are looking at a few positive takeaways for next season.
As of Week 17, the Dallas Cowboys sit atop the NFC East with a strong finish, capitalizing on key divisional matchups. Their closest rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, trail behind, needing help to clinch a playoff spot. The New York Giants, at the bottom of the standings, are out of playoff contention. This sets a backdrop of urgency for Dallas to maintain momentum against an embattled Giants team.
Going into the game the sportsbook favors Dallas, while also doling them out +2500 odds to win the Super Bowl and +1200 to win the NFC Championship, according to the latest NFL Futures.

Betting Preview for the Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants NFL Week 17 Game on December 30, 2018

TV Broadcast: FOX
Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (9-6)
After getting shut out in a 23-0 loss in Week 15 to the Indianapolis Colts on the road, the Cowboys bounced back nicely last Sunday, as they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home, 27-20. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott went 20-of-25 for 161 passing yards and a touchdown, while running back Ezekiel Elliott had 85 rushing yards with zero scores on 18 carries. There’s a lot to be desired from the Cowboys’ offensive performance in that game, especially when considering the usually leaky Tampa Bay defense, but at least Dallas did a fine job on the other end of the field. They limited Tampa Bay down to only 383 total yards and forced two turnovers. Hopefully for the Cowboys, they will have more success on offense next Sunday against the Giants, whom Dallas outgained, 298-255, back in Week 2’s 20-13 win in Arlington. That’s way back before Dallas got wide receiver Amari Cooper, who’ll look to punish the Giants’ defense that’s letting opponents complete 64.92 percent of their passes.
On the road so far this season, Dallas is 2-5 straight up (SU) and 3-4 against the spread (ATS) however, the Cowboys boast a 3-0 ATS record in their last three meetings with the Giants.
Key Players for the Cowboys to Watch
With Dak Prescott at the helm, Dallas's offensive strength rests on efficient passing and strategic runs. Ezekiel Elliott, a dominant force in the backfield, complements Prescott's skills.
Recent games have seen Amari Cooper emerge as an important receiver, adding depth and versatility. Cooper's presence has been felt in decisive games, enhancing Dallas's game plan.
Betting on the New York Giants (5-10)
Eli Manning churned out one of his best performances of the year, albeit in a 28-27 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. Against the Colts, Manning threw for 309 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception on 25-of-33 completions. That he managed to put up those numbers without the still hurting Odell Beckham Jr. The wide receiver has missed the last three weeks due to a quad injury and likely would miss the season finale with nothing on the line for the Giants. Fortunately for the Giants, they still have the pair of running back Saquon Barkley, wideout Sterling Shepard, and tight end Evan Engram to provide playmaking around Manning. Barkley rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown against the Colts, while Shepard and Engram had 113 and 87 receiving yards, respectively. Barkley paced the team in rushing yards and receiving yards in the first meeting with Dallas this season.
The Giants' defense has struggled lately, ranking low in important metrics like yards allowed. They've allowed opponents to accumulate significant gains, which impacts their game outcomes.
Facing Dallas, their defensive line must tighten up to contain Prescott and Elliott, given that past performances have shown vulnerabilities, especially in the passing game.
The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Weather Concerns for Game Day
The weather forecast for East Rutherford on game day suggests cloudy skies with a chance of rain. Such conditions could influence play strategies for both teams.
Slick field conditions may favor ground-based strategies, potentially giving an edge to Ezekiel Elliott and Saquon Barkley while challenging quarterbacks to adjust their passing accuracy under variable weather.
Writer’s Prediction
Dallas wins, 27-19.
